winter partying

dressing for a winter party on top: Aqua top (old), Nordstrom’s blazer on bottom: BCBG skirt in-between: Hue tights, Shoemint heels, vintage bag, Stella & dot, Dogeared, & Gorjana necklaces

Sometimes it is just plain painful to go out at night during the winter.  Getting dressed up and going to a dinner or party just doesn’t seem as fun as staying at home in a big sweatshirt and ordering take out.  At times when going out is required I can often be found in something large and oversized that resembles a scarf/sweater/blanket combo.  However, I suppose there are times when that kind of dress is unacceptable.  In those cases it is good to have some essential pieces on hand to make getting dressed up slightly less torturous and actually a little fun.

  1.  A fun black skirt.  My ruffled BCBG one is old,  but I’ve been dying for a tulle or feathered one.
  2.  A good statement shoe.  Mine are shoemint, but these leopard ones would be amazing.
  3.  A multipurpose blazer.  I have so many it’s a little embarrassing but I wear them all the time.
  4.  Colorful or printed tights.  Just don’t wear nude.  EVER.

What’s your go-to for dressing up in the winter?

Going out in the winter is the worst! I hate wearing a jacket because then I’ll lose it, so I usually stick with a blazer or a long-sleeve top and try not to freeze. Love colored tights, too!

  11. I tend to fall into the plain-old black tight options again and again. I do have a darker teal and a heather grey option, but I always feel funny in them. Your purple ones look great!

I love those colored tights!! I usually dress in layers for going out in the winter since it’s so cold inside but often too hot inside. And I tend to replace my heels with a pair of tall boots.

  20. I love your winter outfit alternative, because even though during these cold months I would much prefer the comfort of my own couch, I do love the pieces you’ve pulled for a get together. In particular the white blazer and leopard print heels are pretty sweet! I’ve been looking for a structured white blazer for such a long time, hopefully I’ll find one soon… Thank you so much for visiting my blog, I hope to see you back soon :)
